Clean Eating Baked Ziti
Who doesn’t enjoy some Italian comfort food? I work this recipe into our family meal plan every other week. Our boys love pasta! I sometimes add more cheese than called for (shame, shame!), but that’s my own problem. Perhaps I can put the blame on my hometown state of Wisconsin. Once a cheesehead – always a cheesehead!
  • 1lb whole wheat pasta, cooked (my boys prefer rotini noodles)
  • 1 1/2lb ground turkey or chicken
  • 1tbsp coconut oil or olive oil
  • 2tbsp dried basil
  • 1tsp dried oregano
  • 1tbsp garlic powder
  • 1tbsp onion powder
  • 1tsp honey
  • 1tsp balsamic vinegar
  • 1 diced onion
  • 1 diced red pepper
  • 1/2cup water
  • 1 – 15oz can tomato sauce, no sodium is best
  • 1cup feat cheese or parmesanoptional
  • 1cup mozzarella cheese shredded from block for topping
  1. While the pasta cooks, in a large skillet, cook the turkey meat in the oil. Add diced onion and red pepper.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the basil, oregano, garlic powder, onion powder, honey, vinegar, water and tomato sauce.
  3. Combine the cooked pasta, meat, and tomato sauce mixture.
  4. Transfer to an 8×10 baking dish. Mix in feta cheese.
  5. (Optional) Sprinkle mozzarella cheese (or parmesan) on top
  6. Bake at 350 F for about 20 minutes or until the cheese on top is melted.
